Roasted nuts look best in a glass jar. If you pack them in a tin, though, a doily at the bottom is a nice touch. I can usually find partial packages of doilies at yard sales.

Meredith,
I've been thinking about making these for Christmas just today. Would you have any good ideas of spice flavors or herbs to add to them for variation?
Meredith,
Could you recommend a good, easy recipe? Maybe it is elswhere in the blog and I missed it ...
Thanks,

Meredith,
Where do you find nuts that won't break the grocery budget?
I love your blog and lurk on it everyday!!
Thank you for your effort to write and put pictures on your blog. I know how much work this is for you but the results are inspiring.
My husband's Georgia born and bred grandmother had a special touch with roasted pecans. She taught me to toast them lightly in a skillet with about half a stick of butter, then finish drying them on a cookie sheet in a low oven. Stir often so not to burn.
Her secret was a light, light dusting of seasoned salt, though she also made a sugared version with cinnamon that was to die for.
As for the cost of nuts, it's high. So high that nuts are not a regular part of my grocery budget.
(Incidentally, readers report that Costco is the cheapest source for pecans. I find a pretty close match at my tiny little neighborhood grocery.)
I pretty much buy them only for gifts. If you think about it, $5 will buy half a pound of pecans or slightly more of other nuts. For people who have everything and don't need another knicknack, $5 in nuts may be a good alternative.
Unless someone has a nut allergy, they make a great gift for diabetics. It's one of the few snack foods that they can eat without worry.
Nuts are also a nice little luxury to give to people who bake. I splurged on a few packages for my husband's grandmother one Christmas. She was THRILLED.
I love reading your blog! I agree the nuts look so pretty in a mason jar with pretty ribbon.
Farm & Fleet had them $5.50 per pound - I bought some for gifts, and made deviled pecans -
Melt 1/3 cup butter in a large bowl in the microwave. Add 1TBS worchestersire, 1/2 tsp tobasco, a couple of dashes of pepper and about a tsp of salt. Add one pound pecans, mix well. Bake in single layer on a cookies sheet at 300 degrees for 20 minutes, stirring at least twice. Cool on paper towel.
Delightful!
I was able to get some nuts on sale at CVS this year (with coupons & using extra care bucks I did quite well) & the expense was minimal.
This is a great packaging idea! I am planning to make some nut mixes for people and I will be hunting for these special touches. Thank you!
